Know the Route Before You Walk It
One of the best ways to enjoy the Namport Fun Walk is to arrive prepared. Knowing the route, where to park, and what facilities are available along the way means you can focus entirely on having a great time — no stress, no confusion, just walking.
This guide covers everything you need to know about the course layout and on-the-day logistics.
The Start & Finish Area
The event traditionally starts and finishes in the Walvis Bay waterfront and port precinct area, taking advantage of Namibia's stunning coastal scenery. The start line is clearly marked, and event marshals will be stationed throughout to guide participants.
Arrive early to collect your race pack (if applicable), warm up, and soak in the pre-event atmosphere. Gates typically open well before the official start time — specific timings will be confirmed in the lead-up to the event.
Route Overview
The Fun Walk route is designed to be scenic, safe, and accessible. It winds along the Walvis Bay coastline, offering views of the lagoon, flamingo colonies, and the broader port infrastructure that makes Walvis Bay the economic heartbeat of Namibia.
- Short Route: Ideal for families with young children and first-time participants
- Long Route: A more rewarding challenge for regular walkers and those wanting a workout
- Routes are clearly marked with signage and event marshals
- The terrain is predominantly flat and paved — suitable for prams and wheelchairs on the short route
Hydration & Refreshment Stations
Staying hydrated in the Namibian sun is essential. Water stations will be positioned at regular intervals along both routes. Participants are encouraged to:
- Drink water at every station, even if you don't feel thirsty
- Bring a personal water bottle for between stations
- Avoid alcohol before and during the walk
Parking & Getting There
Designated parking areas will be available near the event venue. To avoid congestion, consider the following:
- Arrive at least 45 minutes before the start time
- Carpool with friends or family where possible
- Follow directions from traffic marshals and event signage
- Do not park in restricted or private areas near the port
